The school bus service is provided free of charge to eligible students who:
a) are regular full-time students under the age of 19 at school or TAFE (including kindergarten students); and
b) reside a distance of more than 4.5 km (by the shortest practical road route) from their nearest appropriate government or private school as measured from the nearest gate of the student's normal place of residence.

Applications:

In order to access the bus or to claim conveyance allowance, parents must complete an “Application for Transport Assistance” form through the bus coordinator at Katanning SHS.

Conveyance Allowance:

Where parents are required to drive their child to meet the bus or to pick up and drop off kindergarten students on half-days, they may be eligible to claim conveyance allowance. Once Conveyance Allowance has been approved, parents must complete a claim form at the end of each term and forward it to the school.

Communication:

It is essential that parents communicate with the bus driver when a child is not going to be on the bus, so that time is not wasted waiting for students who are not on, and students who are going to be on are not left behind. The contractors’ phone numbers are listed below. Some contractors may give you the drivers’ phone number to contact them directly.

Times:

The time given for morning pick-ups is the time that the bus leaves the stop. Please make sure that your child is at the stop a few minutes before this time.

Extra students on the bus:

If your child wishes to bring a friend home with them on the bus you need to check with the contractor that this is okay (that there is room on the bus). These arrangements are made between the parents and the contractor or driver.

Code of Conduct:

A copy of the guidelines issued by the Public Transport Authority regarding safe school bus behaviour is attached (click here). It outlines the expectations of students and the responsibilities of the bus driver. Please make sure your child understands these expectations.

Changes to bus routes:

Applications for an extension to the bus route or a spur must be made through the bus coordinator at Katanning SHS. Each application is assessed according to the guidelines of the Public Transport Authority. Changes to bus routes will not be made for kindergarten students.
